Job Description:

The Community Center Specialist is responsible for enhancing community relations and encouraging community partners to use the Shine Bright Community Center to host meetings and events. As the Subject-Matter Expert, this position will follow the strategic vision for the community center and hyperlocal community partnerships, cultivate relationships with local nonprofits and community partners, and maintain the reservation platform, reporting, and confirmed events.  This position will require strong analytical skills, sound judgment, effective project management, and exceptional communication skills. The Community Center Specialist will be highly visible, interact directly with nonprofits and community partners to accelerate the community center efforts and initiatives, and ensure events align with Community Affairs priorities.    Requires exceptional communication skills, strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and effective project management. A flexible working schedule, including evenings and weekends, is needed.  Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enhancing community relations and driving community partners to the Shine Bright Community Center to host meetings and events.  The role is involved in planning short-term and long-term organization objectives at the Shine Bright Community Center. The Associate Community Center Specialist is assigned additional projects and activities to support the Community Affairs Team. The role will also coordinate special events hosted at the center that includes interacting and directing vendors and community partners. The role will lead a priority area of focus for the center such as financial literacy, workforce development or youth engagement. This includes developing and implementing a workshop series to support internal staff and the community at-large. The role will cultivate relationships with local nonprofits and community partners.  The role will follow the strategic vision for the community center and community partnerships.

  • Subject matter expert (SME) on Discover's Community Center reservation process, policies, and procedures. As the SME, the role has the authority over the Shine Bright Community Center (SBCC) to interpret and implement management policies and operating procedures and apply them to the reservation process. Has the authority to make exceptions to policies or operating practices as needed to fully support community partners. The position is the main contact for nonprofit organizations, business units' leadership, and vendors and manages onsite events, including adherence to procedures and policies. Directs business units, including Security, Facilities and Business Technology, to ensure successful event execution. Monitors to ensure guidelines are being followed and has the authority to stop errant behavior

  • The Associate Community Center Specialist creates, distributes, and manages community partner surveys and compiles summary reports to inform Shine Bright Community Center manager, Senior Manager Community Affairs, Director of Community Affairs on negative and positive feedback. The role provides feedback reports to various business units to improve the operations of SBCC including Security, Facilities and Business Technology. Actively manage and escalate risk of community partner issues within the community center organizational hierarchy

  • Collaborate with Corporate Communication team to highlight community center events across Discover internal and external social media networks. Acquire working knowledge and utilize internal communications channels to inspire employee participation and recognize Community Center events.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Associates

  • 3+ years of professional work experience required in nonprofit special events, hotel events, conference centers or similar workplace environment.

  • 1+ years previous experience in an administrative/office support role and intermediate proficiency with Microsoft office suite and digital platforms.

  • In lieu of education, 5+ years work experience.

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $52,000.00 to $76,800.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
